They Barred Them from Her Book Signing Party by Milton Lee Norris

Being barred from establishments because of the color of one’s skin is something that is supposed to be passé. Now that this has happened to you, do you smile and say thank you, or do you let your brilliance speak while using common sense?

It seems as if there is always something that is done, which makes what I’ve been writing about ring out louder and clearer. Incidents like not being allowed to enter to an establishment should be a thing of the past. This was part of America’s history, and we know it to be true because it happened not too long ago. Being refused entry to places shouldn’t still be making the headlines; these stories should not be part of today’s news.

Unfortunately I do believe that things like this still happen; one only has to look at what happened with the class action lawsuit against Macy’s department store. Minorities were followed and watched as if they were going to steal something; today we call it racial profiling. In this particular case an African-American woman was detained because they thought she had stolen something; she had not, in fact she tried to show the security guards her receipts for her purchases, but they ignored her.

http://www.allbusiness.com/retail-tra ... ous-retail/4430260-1.html

One can also look at various police confrontations, incidents of police brutality against the African-American people and Hispanic minorities. One particular case comes to mind, the Abner Louima case, where police officers brutally sodomized him with a broken broom handle.

http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-167464676.html

http://revcom.us/a/v19/920-29/925/louima.htm

There’s also another tragic case, where Amadou Diallo, an innocent man was murdered for no reason by police officers. http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/refe ... /amadou_diallo/index.html

These are only a couple of cases, but it shows the mentality of some people out there; some of these people live and work in New York City.

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~pshell/gammage/testimonies/ny-amnesty.html

There was also the case involving Harvard Professor, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. http://wcbstv.com/national/Henry.Louis.Gates.2.1094420.html

This didn’t occur in New York City, but it helps to show the temperament of this country when race is involved.

Unfortunately finding stories that show racial tension in New York City and other parts of this country is very easy. For instance, when it comes to housing, Long Island appears to be in a continued frenzy against renting to people of color.

http://www.eraseracismny.org/html/pdf ... nd_survey_report_2009.pdf

Look at our school systems where the African-American children are disproportionately higher in number than their White classmates. http://courses.coe.asu.edu/artiles/er/06ERv35n6_Blanchett.pdf

http://www.polk-fl.net/districtinfo/d ... erintendent/diversity.htm

With all of these things going on here in New York City, ask yourself if you think that this is a true story or not. Do you believe that African-American guests were barred from entering this establishment, which was holding Teri Wood’s book signing? Personally I believe that it’s possible that these black people, guests of this African-American woman were barred from this club at her book signing. There have been too many incidents of racism and racial profiling for me not to believe that it is possible. Racism and prejudice is running rampant here in New York City, and to deny that it exists would be like denying that slavery existed in this country.

Recently a Baton Rouge official refused to marry a couple because they were of different races; he deliberately broke the law. http://topics.treehugger.com/article/09N29BDesmef9

http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ss ... y_landrieu_want_offi.html

When I hear or read that a certain club has allowed African-American celebrities, minority icons into their club, and that they have also allowed gays into this club, to me that doesn’t mean that they’re not racist. It only takes a few to disobey what is written in the law, and if they are White, chances are that they’re more likely to get away with their blatant actions of discrimination. Look at the racial temperament of this country right now; we have an African-American President, but there are many Whites who resent this. Only yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, there was a treat to his life.

http://wcbstv.com/national/john.brek.threat.2.1263887.html

It is shameful that things continue to be like this in 2009, but this is the United States of America. Look at the history between the African-American People of Color, who were bought, stole and forced into slavery in this country. In my book “Born In The Wrong Country,” I speak of discrimination, which still exists on many levels right here in this country. The book also addresses the abuse and pain caused by discrimination.

As an African-American man of color, who is gay and an epileptic, I see the rage on some of the White peoples’ faces as I walk down the street. If looks could kill, many of us would be dead. Make no mistake, it’s not just White people, it is also Black people and Hispanics that harbor prejudices and the list continues to grow. Many people would rather not discuss racism, discrimination and prejudice, but not discussing them won’t erase them; they will only continue to fester. As long as people continue to hide behind discrimination in this country, and in New York City, people are going to continue to act out. People will continue misbehaving as long as they can get away with it, especially if there isn’t any real punishment or reimbursements to be paid out. Unfortunately some people get hurt by many discriminatory acts, some are injured in blatant attacks and others are murdered. Today discrimination seems to be climbing at a much faster rate. The government makes funds available for Anti-Terrorism; there should be some funding for Anti-Discrimination. Police now have special training; many people right here in this city and our country need training.

You see people try things, and as time goes on they become more daring. Allowing some African-American celebrities and some gay people into establishments doesn’t prove that an establishment is not racist, that can be used as a cover. Many of these African-American celebrities that are allowed in have money, so just because some Whites may be seen kissing and hugging these African-American celebrities, or are thought to have sex with them, hold hands or seemingly bond together with different ethnicities, or even have flings with people of different sexual orientations, doesn’t mean that they’re not racist. We all have some prejudices, but when they are blatantly displayed to the level that they interfere with someone’s livelihood, then they should be swatted like a fly on the wall; they should be made to pay compensatory damages to the highest degree.

Before this incident I wrote a poem entitled, “Have You Ever Been Turned Away? When I wrote this poem I was thinking of when I was growing up, but I knew when writing it that it was not just about yesterday; some things have changed, others haven’t, and what I wrote about still has relevance today. When I heard about Teri Wood’s book signing incident, I was reminded of my poem and how I felt; this incident made wonder how she must feel, so I’ve included it in this article.
Have You Ever Been Turned Away? By Milton Lee Norris

Have you ever been turned away from a door that was
    opened,
But once you arrived they closed it in your face?
Have you ever been turned away from a simple water
fountain of which the water flowed, but once you arrived
you were told you could not drink there?
Have you ever
been turned away from a toilet which takes in
    waste,
Yet when you tried to expel your waste, you were
told this was not for you?

Have you ever been turned away from a restaurant or
diner that refused to serve you food, and though money
wasn’t a problem for it was the right color,
It was your
face that was the wrong color?
 Have you ever been
denied a job or an education to get that job?
 Have you
ever been denied a seat in the theatre because
you were told your place was upstairs?

And all of a sudden that balcony you loved was no longer
    desirable.
Have you ever been denied treatment at a
hospital or clinic because they didn’t treat your kind, not
your people, that would have been terrible enough, but
they would not even call you people, or a person or a
name? Had they called you a name, it would have been
one that you hated, or should I say used to hate, for far
too many use that word now, and guess who uses it the
most? Now you call each other that name, a name that
once brought shame, disgrace and ill feelings, now it’s
used just as readily as one chews gum.

Have you ever been turned away?

So the next time you decide to raise your ugly head, beware of the price that you may have to pay, because it may be a price that you’re unwilling to shell out, or perhaps one that you cannot afford.

I have no sympathy for those who dared to turn those away, when the door was open to others. I have not sympathy for the lies once told and those that are still being told today, especially when it stops someone from their livelihood.

I have no sympathy for those who will not respect the color of our skin, or refuse to open a door because we don’t look like them.

I have no sympathy whether it’s a diner, a club, or a restaurant that would deny us entrance or even to a pool, when we have paid for the use of such a space.

I have no sympathy for those who would close a door in our faces because they are ill tempered; they should find some other place of employment where they don’t have to open a door for us.

I have no sympathy because this is our country and laws were made for both of us to obey.

If they did not obey the laws, they you should pay. They should pay damages for all of those laws which they have broken, and for those they have shamed and humiliated.

If these allegations are the true, I hope that they will be required to pay compensatory damages. New York City and this country don’t need anymore people or groups raising their ugly heads.

Tiger Wood’s Apology by Milton Norris

Articles

Tiger Woods recently gave a public apology for his illicit behavior. Because of his immense popularity as a well liked golf pro, his life and all that he does remains under a magnifying glass, therefore when he’s successful the entire world applauds, and when a scandal breaks out, the media becomes more like an adversary. Unfortunately when his bad behavior was exposed that same media who followed his every victory became like bloodhounds sniffing out their prey; they became relentless.

Many thought that his home life and marriage was a reflection of what his professional life was like, but we soon came to find out that we didn’t really know this man at all. After his car crash in November 2009, the public was soon to find out that there was a different Tiger Woods; his image began to crack as many secret affairs began to emerge.

We began to realize that he didn’t have a squeaky clean personal and home life, but that it was marred with infidelities, which made him look like a rich male slut. He seemed to have slept around with many different women, while returning home to his wife, their bed and to their children.

Shameful is too light of a term to use; he simply engrossed himself in a filthy lifestyle. Being a multi-millionaire doesn’t really mean anything, when you’re married and hiding many sexual liaisons with numerous women. Some might say that it’s actually worse because the rich and famous become even more scrutinized by the media and the public. A scandal gives a funny odor, and many want to know more about this unexpected development. Unlike ordinary people, a popular superstar athlete is under a very large magnifying glass, and their actions become even more news worthy; an erupting scandal produces an avalanche of scathing material.

Tiger Woods kept out of sight for a few months, and he didn’t answer any questions while being at home and in rehabilitation. When he finally held news it was understood that he would not be answering any questions. He was there to set the record straight after months of rumors and much speculation of his infidelity in his marriage; he was there to apologize because he had been unfaithful and because he disappointed many fans.

He looked like a broken man; his image was not the stellar image that so many of us were accustomed to seeing, but his speech was well written. This was not a time to make light of what he had done and continue on as though nothing had happened; this was serious and he knew what he had to do and did just that.

I commend him on the delivery of his speech because he seemed to be very sincere; he didn’t breakdown and cry in public as some men have done to garner sympathy; his tone was serious. Tiger Woods also attacked the media, because his wife did not commit those illicit acts and neither did his family, yet the media had tried to get as close as possible to question them.

Thank God that his children are so young that neither will probably remember what was happening; one is a toddler and the other had just turned a year old. It’s also a good thing that Jesus is not being crucified today; can you imagine the hits on YouTube? The media would have had a field day with his trial on the Internet, radio and on TV.

It’s amazing and shameful what the media will do for ratings. CBS must have spent 10 minutes going over Tiger Wood’s comments after his news conference. At that point nothing else seemed important, not the homeless, the victims of rape, not those who are starving in this country and the world, but all the focus was on Tiger Woods.

Just because Tiger Woods has done a wrong, a great wrong as he has said, that doesn’t mean that the media in this country should do the same, especially where his wife, children and his mother are concerned. Their actions tell a lot about what this country is made up of and that they’ll do just about anything to get what they want. They seem to be always showing their arrogance in public; I call it showing their ass in public.

As much as everyone is criticizing Tiger Woods, they really should take what he said and apply it to themselves. He said that he thought that he had earned the right to in essence taste whatever he wanted to because of his money and celebrity, and that he also felt entitled; he now realizes that his money and celebrity status didn’t entitle him to do what he did.

The media should take what he said and apply it to themselves on how much coverage they give something. This government should do the same; far too often has this government’s arrogance gotten the United States into trouble; Iraq is a prime example. The haughtiness of any individual, corporation or government never presents a good image; they can cause disastrous outcomes.

President Barack Obama Wins the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 by Milton Lee Norris

A controversy has arisen over the choice for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. Many are saying that it was a surprise and that they were shocked that President Barack Obama was chosen to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. I have to laugh at all of the hoopla that is going on, some are surprised, others are saying that it’s too soon, and others are questioning if he even deserves it, what a farce, but their responses don’t surprise me. His winning did not surprise me either, to me it was evident; I had predicted that he would win the Nobel Peace Prize before he was elected President. Perhaps the Norwegian Committee, which names the recipients saw and felt what I did.

President Barack Obama’s voice rang out loud and clear before he was elected President of the United States of America, and long before winning the Nobel Peace Prize. When his voice rang out, it rang out in opposition of the Iraq war; it rang out against terrorism, it rang out in opposition of invading Iraq, something his predecessor had done. President Barack Obama’s voice rang in as an advocate for peace, for disarmament of nuclear weapons, and for a nonproliferation treaty worldwide; it rang in for justice and freedom for all men and women.http://www.acronym.org.uk/docs/0810/doc11.htm

http://www.barackobama.com/2008/07/16 ... et_obamas_new_plan_to.php

I think that some people forget or fail to realize that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee was probably watching Mr. Barack Obama as he campaigned for the presidency, and watched how he captured the spirit of the American people, while inspiring people and capturing the spirit of people and nations worldwide. His voice and presence was received thunderously throughout the world, and people all over accepted him as a leader even before he was elected. His voice of integrity rang throughout the world; his luminosity as a great orator captured the world and held it spellbound. People fell in love with his unmistakable charismatic persona; his common sense and brilliance helped him defeat his opponents in a gentlemanly way. No one had ever seen the likes of a man like this before; this Africa-American person of color took the world by surprise. People still don’t understand how he did what he did; they remain astounded to this day, and now winning the Nobel Peace Prize, well I guess that’s just too much for them to grasp. Many critics and others who criticize don’t understand the Black persona; it’s magical, it’s even more magical when the person is a young handsome African-American man that is brilliant, determined and has an unmistakable presence.

People must understand that this prize is named the Nobel Peace Prize for a reason. The mere fact that it is a prize of peace should tell everyone what the whole world already knows; President Barack Obama was an advocate for peace before his election to the presidency, his Presidency only strengthens his role as an advocate for greater peace.

President Barack Obama inherited two wars, one to end and the other to hunt out and destroy the Taliban. The hunt to get Osama Bin Laden and keep protecting our country does not mean that he is a warmonger like his predecessor. Protecting our country is not the same as invading a country as the Bush administration did, an administration which caused the unnecessary deaths of thousands of innocent people in Iraq, along with thousands more that were wounded and maimed for life. The Bush administration did not uplift America or the world; invading Iraq without global sanction caused the world to look at the United States of America in disfavor. This height of arrogance of George Bush also caused thousands of unnecessary deaths to our own service men and women, thousands more were severely wounded; this was not President Obama’s call. President Barack Obama was left to clean up the devastation of his predecessor, who seems to have gotten away with murder.

People around the world took notice when Barack Obama’s voice cried out for the people, for peace and harmony of this nation and the world. The world was watching as that same voice captured millions of people in this country to bring about change. The world watched to see if Barack Obama would be able to take back our country from the oppressive Bush administration and start changing the course of America. The world was watching him on his Inauguration Day, and they knew that this would not be an easy task, yet President Obama has begun bringing about many changes. The world was watching him then and the world continues to watch him.

Rather than constantly scrutinizing our President as some are doing, we should be better than that. President Barack Obama asked for our support, he did so before and after his election, and in his inaugural address. He asked us to work with him to elevate ourselves and this country to reach new heights, so rather than listening to outsiders who would like to see him fail, be better than that. He is changing America’s image; he’s quenching our thirst for change, but in order to continue, we need to be as supportive for him now as we were when we voted for him.

Don’t let ignorance play a part in saying that he hasn’t done enough, it’s too soon or that he doesn’t deserve it. Ask yourself who ignited your spirit in the first place; who fired you up to vote, and some for the first time; who made you feel more like a human being and an American more than anyone else had done in years; who gave you the promise that if we’d work with him that we could change things for the better, and who said “Yes We Can?” Let’s not forget that and let’s not get caught up in the rhetoric of the Republican Party or other people who don’t see things going fast enough; listen to the President because he will not let us down, so long as we don’t let him down.

President Barack Obama has only begun, but with our help and the help of the world this man will achieve much more and bring harmony to the people in this great nation, thus helping to create harmony worldwide. I believe that he is worthy to receive this great honor of the Nobel Peace Prize because he is an advocate for peace, who continues working to create world peace, and this honor is a great incentive to continue doing great things. Let us continue putting our right foot forward, but let’s follow through with our left foot until we reach this stable ground. Let’s remember what President Barack Obama said; this is a prize that we all share.

President Barack Obama’s Talk to Your Kids by Milton Lee Norris

Articles

Some Americans are speaking out; they’re saying that they are afraid of President Barack Obama’s upcoming speech to the children. To me this seems like they are trying to force the Republican Party agenda by trying to create a little turmoil.

Is it possible that some of the people in this country are still trying to push the Republican Party’s agenda, which took the American people down a blind alley and dumped them? After invading Iraq, which created a costly war in lives and money, would some folks rather remain stupid as they did in the appalling Bush administration? When the Bush administration invaded Iraq, over 4,000 American men and women of our armed forces were murdered, along with thousands of others that were permanently injured; did the Republican Party and citizens in this country not learn anything? Why would some people want to press hard to disrupt a brilliant presidency, when they didn’t have the balls to impeach a murder?

A lot of this criticism is coming from an inept Republican Party, which seem to have found it empowering to murder and destroy. Remember that as this war goes on, it continues to drain our economy by robbing our own people of things that are still needed here at home, such as food, jobs, housing, schools and health insurance.

Haven’t the Republican Party learned anything after the Bush disaster? Those Americans that are behind the smear campaign by the Republican Party, and who don’t want our president to speak to our children about education, must have been terrorized by the Republican Party. I say terrorized because terrorism is great for brainwashing people, even the American people. Look at what it did to the African-American people of color during slavery; this terrorism was done so well by this nation that it has continued through today. The terrorist have an agenda; the Bush administration and Republican Party had an agenda, and they used the element of fear, which spread lies to trick the world and the American people into allowing the Bush administration to do what was done. The price of this war continues to be tabulated, as our soldiers aren’t home from Iraq. To date the price of the Iraqi War is over $680 billion dollars. http://costofwar.com/

When will the Republican Party and those who are followers learn that no good comes from arrogance and impulsive behavior? The egotistical and impetuous behavior by the Bush administration and of this Republican Party is nothing less than disgraceful. The United States of America lost its prestigious standing in many countries around the world because of Bush and his policies. Other countries are only now beginning to look at this country in a more receptive light, and this is due to President Obama, but unfortunately it seems that the cronies of the Bush administration, along with the media would like to revert this country back to when it was ruled by someone of a Third Reich mentality.

To make a statement that parents fear that President Barack Obama’s speech reminds them of what Hitler did is insane; http://mediamatters.org/research/200909020012 if they believe that, then they really are showing their stupidity. To speak in these terms makes one believe that perhaps they are on a psychedelic trip induced by using some kind of LSD drug of the 1960s, or some other kind of drug.

LSD was a drug that the 60s generation used to go on a mental trip, a mental high, which proved very dangerous. Some parents are saying that they are afraid of President Obama spreading his own agenda. When Bush was in office that’s when they should have been afraid.

Is America to come unglued before it has been firmly glued back together? To make comments that President Barack Obama’s upcoming speech to the children reminds some of an earlier time in Germany is ludicrous. Simply put, we have a brilliant President of our country, who happens to be a young African-American man of color, and who knows how to get the American people involved without wheeling and dealing. President Obama is at the helm and knows how to navigate the ship of this country, unlike the ship of fools headed by Bush, and the drowning of our country in debt.

The America people need to wake up and know that bad policies, arrogance and stupidity are not intelligent ways in which to get America back on track. America needs to survive, and in order to do that, certain groups need to stop listening to the Republican Party, whose goal is to only fatten their pockets and leave its people high and dry.

The American people need to stop buying into the mentally polluted propaganda of the Republican Party. Would this country rather have a president that can’t pronounce words as in the previous administration, or would they rather have a president who is an advocate for education, and sees education as a preventive medicine? President Obama knows that the youth can strive to be anything that they want if they have a good education; he knows that with an educated America that this country can begin to achieve harmony here at home and edge closer to world piece

Racism Is Like a Pit Bull; Blacks & Hispanics Aren't Welcome at Our Pool By MLN
Posted by webmaster on 2009/7/16 14:00:00 (348 reads)
Articles

While watching CBS Morning News on Channel 2, I was horrified when I heard two people of color, one adult and a child being interviewed. They said that they were asked to leave the place where they were, because they were not wanted there. It seems that this club was a little annoyed because of the color of their skin.

We all know that this is not a perfect country; there are still many Whites that are very prejudiced, as are Blacks, and Hispanics, but there is no reason for an incident like this. This club claims to have a diverse membership, but still these children weren't allowed to return. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/11/us/11pool.html

"The Valley Club says it has a diverse membership, but the campers were not permitted to return after their first visit, on June 29, and the club refunded the camp's $1,950 on July 3 without explanation." I don't buy what they said about having a diverse membership; did their membership include Black and Hispanic members? One can have a diverse membership of Whites from different parts of this country, or from the world for that matter. Being of diverse membership doesn't mean that one is not prejudice, and if this club wasn't racist, with racist policies, this would not have happened. If that wasn't the case, I believe that there would have been a much more viable explanation; there are better ways to inform someone that an error had been made, if that was indeed the case.

You see racism is like a pit bull raising its ugly head; you didn't destroy the disease, so it festered, and now it has become an even more putrid kind of hate. Unlike the Pit Bull, when bitten, racism affects us in a more internal way, it worsens, and like terrorism, it keeps taunting us for the rest of our lives; we must change the way we think.

Why do things like this continue to happen? For now let's just say that we nurtured the wrong things. To help prevent these kinds of attacks from impacting us, it would be wise for the African-American People of Color, Hispanics, and other minorities, who are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older relatives and adults, who aren't empowered, to become empowered. Empowered adults can then teach their children about the importance of being empowered.

Unlike one might expect, this incidence didn't occur in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas or Arkansas; this incidence occurred in Huntingdon Valley, Pa., a suburban Philadelphia club. The nature of the accusation against this club was that these bunch of kids, which numbered around 65, were asked to leave when they arrived to swim. They remarked, "Saying what are all these black kids doing here? And that she was afraid that we might try to do something to her child, one camper said of the parents' reaction."

http://wcbstv.com/national/valley.swim.club.2.1081381.html Don't you think that has a racial overtone?

It is amazing that how some Whites become afraid. I point this out in my book, "Born In The Wrong Country," when saying "....And when it was just us that you were torturing and murdering, then you weren't afraid, you didn't even flinch as you continued to terrorize us, so you really shouldn't be afraid now either." This was in reference to what White America had done to the African-American People of Color during and after slavery. Why should a White parent be afraid of Black and Hispanic children, who have done them no harm? What does this say about the conscience of some of White Americans? Believe me, if it was said or thought by one, it was thought by many, and that's how hatred is spread, that is how discrimination is spread, and that is also how lies are spread; you have been nurturing all of these things. Begin to nurture friendship and watch what happens; begin to nurture love and watch how things can change.

If one reads the article in the above URL, it goes on to say the following. "It was a poor choice of words," when someone said they were told, "The camp claims the club told it that the presence of the black and Hispanic children would change the complexion of the pool." Dr. John Duesler, the swim club president said that, "It was never my intention to imply anything in terms of racial makeup."

You know sometimes I wonder, but then again I know. When I think of this year 2009, a disturbing year financially, yet a wonderful year of the 21st Century, something beckons me to look back, and then I know. I know because I see in looking back, a lot of things did not change; there is a long way for us to grow. Let me start by saying that we nurtured the wrong things; we nurtured hate, discrimination, bigotry, and we nurtured racism; we even taught these things to our children; in fact one might say that we did an excellent job in teaching these things. But when it came to making sense and teaching our children the need to respect our others brothers and sisters, we didn't do so well, in fact many of us failed miserably.

As a people, as parents and friends, we became a selfish lot, and many of us even swore that we were Christians. We continued to swear that we were Christians, yet we nurtured hate; we swore that we were Christians as we nurtured our own deceit, our own lies, our own arrogance, our egos and our shame, and as such Christians, we even did it with a smile.

Today we wonder why the children act the way they do, cursing, slapping other children, hurting other children, and sometimes even murdering other children and their parents too. Be still and be quiet for a moment, then listen to your voices as you dare ask such questions. So many of you were taught how to hate, so you taught your own children how to hate; you also taught them how to lie and cheat; in doing so, you were teaching them all about bigotry. You also taught them how to do harm to another human being. Yes, it was you that bought them games to play with; you bought them killing games; you even watched them play; some of you even played with them; your children imitate you quite well. What a disgrace you are; it seems like that is the only how to, that so many of you know how to teach.

If only you had taught and been taught how to be a friend to someone; if only you had been taught how to nurture friendship; if only you had been taught how to nurture truth instead of lies; if only you had been taught how to love and how to nurture love instead of hate, then perhaps there would not have been all of these hateful, despicable crimes of hatred; perhaps we would have grown to be much nicer.

It is a crime to hate; it is a crime to demean another human being; it is a crime to profusely call someone so many ugly names. Whether you realize it or not, these things make you look nasty and ugly. When you act and carry on like a wild buffoon, you begin to reek of a stench greater than that of a decomposing body. You also become as attractive as a maggot being born in garbage.

Are you beginning to get the picture of what hate, discrimination, bigotry, lying, cheating and racism can do? Haven't you learned enough about that in your history books, which taught you about the atrocities of slavery? There was also the Civil Rights Movement, where Black children were scarred and killed in bombings. Perhaps you weren't told enough about slavery, perhaps it wasn't taught in your schools, but it needs to be taught.

When something like this is allowed to occur, do you know what this does to the children? Do you know how it makes someone feel to hear others ask, what are they doing here, or why don't they leave? To discover at an impressionable age, that they aren't welcome somewhere can be a confusing and frightening experience. And now you are probably wondering why those children, counselors and parents feel hurt? This wasn't for free; they paid to be able to swim. When their money was refunded without explanation, in essence you told them that their money wasn't good enough. Remember Blacks and Hispanics have feeling too, and the younger they are, the more hurt they feel.

Be very careful of what you do to the little ones; they will not forget. Be careful of how you treat people; people don't forget. Be careful because so much is taught when you slander, hate, and terrorize people. Hate, racism and discrimination lead to other things, and those things aren't nice. It would be wise to learn how to nurture friendship; when you do that, then you could start to nurture love, for that is the essence of what we all need and want. We must learn to be color blind, so be good to yourself and others, and start nurturing something that is beautiful.
